What are Dual Credit courses?
During the 2014 Legislative session, the Legislature supported Governor Daugaard’s budget request to provide base funding to offer reduced tuition dual credit courses in South Dakota through the High School Dual Credit Program (HSDC). Students have the opportunity to enroll in coursework at the rate of $48.33 per credit hour (or 1/3 of the total cost per credit hour) that meets the System General Education requirements at all six Regental institutions. These courses are offered face-to-face at the on-campus locations, via distance, as well as at the three University Center locations. Starting with the Fall 2014 semester, current high school juniors and seniors enrolled at public, private and tribal high schools whose schools have signed an MOU with South Dakota Department of Education (DOE), or home school students whose parents sign an MOU, are eligible to enroll. More information from DOE regarding the Dual Credit program can be found on SDMyLife.

What courses can I take?
**These are simply recommendations from Mrs. French. Each student has a different path in their secondary-education and must make decisions of which Dual Credit courses fit their needs the best.**
One final thought, when it comes to Dual Credit courses I strongly encourage students be sure that the courses they are going to take will benefit them in their post-secondary endeavors. I do ask that students applying for Dual Credit courses for the first time have a one-on-one meeting with me to go over requirements, application questions, and how to choose the course that best suites their needs.

- Begin thinking about what your plans are post-high school. Entering the workforce? Attending a Technical College? Attending a University? Not sure yet? That's ok! There are options for you that can help you decide!
- Generally, I ask students to consider what their plans are after high school. Do you know what degree you would like to pursue? Do you know which post-secondary school you would like to attend? Each of these questions help guide the students selection in Dual Credit coursework.
- I would recommend that Junior students that are eligible take ONE Dual Credit course in the Fall Semester.
- In my opinion, this allows the students to transition into using the online platform that colleges have their courses offered.
- This is not necessarily the case for all students, some students may be prepared to handle more than one course. This decision needs to be made by the student and their parent/guardian.
- Courses I would recommend Junior students to take to begin their Dual Credit coursework:
- General Psychology 101 (PSYC 101)
- Introduction to Sociology 100 (SOC 100)
- Introductory Spanish I (SPAN 101)
- Composition I (ENGL 101)*
- *If a Junior student has not take the ACT, they may be asked to take an ACCUPLACE test to be enrolled in this course. Please check with Mrs. French if that is the case so this test can be arranged.
- Again, these are purely recommendations and a student can choose from a wide range of courses offered at all institutions. If you have additional question please contact Mrs. French.
